Communication is a two way street with bike lanes and beautiful shady trees.

We love to have a chat, a chin wag, and a check-in. We like to impart wisdom and learn something about our conversational partners when we talk. We love to be heard, understood, and seen for who we are.

Communication becomes more challenging when it is text-based. Sometimes the reader can misunderstand your grammar, vocabulary, and structure. A confusing interaction risks becoming negative.

I’m enamoured with AI. I’m using AI to measure the readability of my text. The Flesch–Kincaid index provides a score of the understandability of a text. Like any tool, it has limitations and should only provide guidance.

There's a correlation between successful books and readability. The average Flesch score for Harry Potter was 72. The Florida state government requires all forms to be at least 45+ on the scale. I’ve included a link to the interpretation of the Flesch scores and examples in that range.

The readability of this post is 63.9, which scores “fairly difficult to read”. Do you think that this is an important metric to track and optimise, or should we stick to being human?
