How do our cities stack up?

Working in the infrastructure and transport space, I’m passionate about making cities more accessible, safe, connected and liveable.

We often see Australian cities in the top 20 lists as most liveable, and frankly, when you add weather considerations - we would win hands down. But what does a successful city really mean?

Successful cities are those that are able to provide a high quality of life for their residents while also supporting economic growth and development. There are a number of key factors that contribute to the success of a city, including:

A strong economy: Successful cities have a diverse and dynamic economy that is able to adapt to changing conditions and provide employment opportunities for a wide range of workers. This often involves a mix of industries, including manufacturing, finance, technology, and services.

Good infrastructure: Successful cities have well-developed infrastructure, including roads, bridges, public transport, and other essential services. This makes it easier for people to move around the city, access essential services, and do business.

High-quality education and healthcare: Successful cities provide their residents with access to high-quality education and healthcare, which are essential for supporting individual and community well-being. This often involves a combination of public and private services, as well as community-based programs.

A vibrant cultural scene: Successful cities have a rich and diverse cultural scene, which can include art galleries, museums, theatres, and other cultural institutions. This can help to attract visitors and residents, as well as support the local economy.

A strong sense of community: Successful cities often have a strong sense of community, with residents who are engaged and involved in the life of the city. This can involve volunteerism, community organisations, and other forms of civic engagement.

Successful cities are those that are able to provide a high quality of life for their residents while also supporting economic growth and development. How does this stack up? Do you agree that Australian cities are the most liveable in the world?
