EV: car-pe diem!

Happy to see councils moving to EV fleets. I love to imagine a future where most light and heavy vehicles are electric.

🚙 However, with EVs being up to a tonne heavier than their non-EV counterparts, we need to consider the overall implications of heavier vehicles zipping around.

🛣️ What is the impact on operational costs in maintaining the roads and road infrastructure?

😷 Are we getting exposed to more rubber particles?

🚧 Are barriers (especially protecting people doing street adjacent work), walls, and supporting structures still able to withstand significantly heavier vehicles?

🦺 What are the safety implications of heavier vehicles involved in accidents?

✅ These are all answerable and solvable issues, but the nature of planning and analysis is that we ought to do it proactively so that we can capture all the opportunities.
